SILK ROUTE @ NIT CALICUT

Though the band has a few really good numbers up their sleeves but performing LIVE is en entirely diffrent business. If i am supposed to describe their show in one word it was pathetic. To add to this was the extremely poor sound arrangement by NIT. It would have been better if they would have called just one band to play instead of two and spent the rest of money on sounds and lights. They played a few numbers of Junoon and they were really awefull in that. The crowd was very enthusiastic though and their was a repeat of Mobile light waving concept. Overall the show was just on the limits of being bearable. Could have been much better if their was a good sound and light system. Anyways still NIT ROCKS ...

Parikrama LIVE in concert at NIT CALICUT

This was the second time i was watching this band playing on stage and there was considerable diffrence (read deterioration) in their performance. Earlier i watched them at Spring fest , IIT Kharagpur. Their performance was marked by a lack of enthusiasm in the crowd and reflected back in the band itself. Though some of the numbers they played were near to the original but the best was the one which was far from the original..... and it was " Sweet child of mine" ...played with violin ...... made it great ..... other good numbers were as usual of Pink Floyd - run like hell. wall et al . The new addition was Cold Play's Yellow and they played it really well. Their original numbers were not as energetic as they could have been . One marked distinguishing parameter of the show was the concept of " Mobile light wave " . Even the band could not resist but to appreciate it. With the light of mobile switched ON a bunch of students at NIT started to wave it and soon many followed the suit for the shear attractiveness of the concept. All and all NIT Calicut Rocks .......

INDIAN OCEAN performing LIVE on the HILLS of IIM KOZHIKODE

Indian Ocean
Indian Ocean is a perfect example of "where there is a will there is a way " . The seeds were sown way back in 1984 when Susmit and Asheem explored the nuances of each other and moved away from the so called normal music - either pop or traditional folk music or classical. Susmit played guitar and Asheem exploited tabla and drums --- hey there was no vocalist!!!. Eventually in 1990 the band was baptised and Indian ocean came into existence. With Shaleen Sharma on drums, they recorded 7 songs in a day. The band got a new member as Rahul joined in 1991 as bass guitarist. In 1992 their first album was released and if records are the measure of anything then the album was the highest selling album by any Indian band ever (till then). Amit replaced Shaleen in 1994 as drummer. The crowd at Mandi House in Delhi went crazy at their performance and they recorded their performance and the second album "Desert Rain"was released .In 2000 their best album (according to me ) was released - Kandisa . The album lifted them from some unknown band to the cult band. Soon they went on to perform abroad. Soon Jhini their next album was released and the latest album Black Friday (ost Black Friday) has tried to capture the tragedy of Mumbai Bomb blast of 1993.

THE CORRS
Her looks can kill. Andrea Corr , the youngest of the siblings has the smile thats as valuable as her voice.
This Irish band is actually a family. The four siblings Andrea ( lead singer), Caroline ( bodhran and drums), Sharon (violin) and Jim ( keyboards and guitars) formed "The Corrs" in 1991 . Goes without saying that they adopted the celtic style , mixed it with pop , added their effort and energy and topped it with Andrea's voice to give the music we all appreciate.Their tryst with stardom started when they went for the audition of "Commitment". Though the roles played were small , John Hughes the music director of the movie was struck by the music talent of the band and soon became the manager of the band. One interestinf incident is when Jim took John to meet his sisters and they were coming out of the school in green uniform. John realised that they were kids and he couldnt beleive that they sisnt look like kids whwen they came for audition. But he was already committed.
